Celebrating 50 Years of Service

Bringing Power to the Community & Beyond for 50 Years

2025 marks the 50th anniversary of River City Construction, a milestone that honors our humble beginnings, hard work, and the dedication that built the company we are today.

Our story began in 1975, when William “Dwain” Edwards, after nearly 15 years in the powerline industry, decided to turn his passion into a business of his own. From the dining room table of a single-wide trailer, River City Construction was born — a true family operation built on determination and teamwork.

After a trip to Johnstown, PA, the company acquired its first digger derrick and pickup truck, opening the door to our very first contracts with Tideland EMC, Texas Gulf, and North Carolina Power. As projects began taking the crew farther from home, lodging became a challenge — one solved through creativity and grit. Crew members would spend their weekends converting an old school bus into a makeshift camper complete with a stovetop and beds, turning it into their home on the road.

As River City grew, so did the need for space. The company quickly out grew the single-wide trailer and moved into the double-wide trailer that still stands next to our current office today. By 1989, less than two decades after its founding, River City had grown into an S-Corporation. It wouldn't even be a year later that River City responded to the call to help restore power to Cape Hatteras and the Outer Banks, that the River City name would be found in the newspapers.

Following Dwain’s passing in 2016, his daughter Cynthia “Cindy” Edwards took the reins, continuing his legacy of leadership, safety, integrity, and growth. Under Cindy’s guidance, River City has expanded rapidly, earning recognition across the industry for excellence and dedication.

Today, River City Construction crews can be found working up and down the East Coast, from South Carolina to Pennsylvania and beyond — to wherever the storms take us.

As we celebrate 50 years in business, we look back with pride and forward with gratitude — for our history, our people, and the communities we serve.
